What is aStructured Settlement?
A structured settlement could be a "periodic payment stream", regular, planned monthly, quarterly or even yearly payments of a larger total amount, and it could be the :
that starts when a judge awards a settlement to a claimant in court, which is then paid out at one or several times in the future via periodic payments to that claimant.
Typically, the initial settlement amount and subsequent investment generates more than enough for all of the guaranteed payments. As such, the issuing insurance company MAY just be keeping the excess dividends paid to that investment as income for themselves ! Since the person receiving the payments might not actually own the annuity instrument, they might generally have no control over the schedule of the payments or the excess funds that have been generated by the annuity. A similar "cash flow" program is set up when somebody wins one of the many lottery contests now running in the USA, and in that case the winner certainly does own it, but may not have control over the winnings after periodic payments are already set up! What we do is help the owners of the payment stream derived from those cash flow streams based on those annuities IF they decide that THEY MUST have a single lump sum of cash instead of the payments. We can help those folks whose payments are based on winning a lottery, too, in exactly the same way we can help those who receive payments as a result of a personal injury or product liability insurance claim that resulted in the structured settlement when they decide that the payments no longer are .
